From one man's idea to a successful medium-sized business.

“The carbon accessories available on the market at the time didn't offer the quality I was looking for. So I began developing them myself!” says Axel Schnura, company founder and managing director of ax-lightness GmbH.
In 1999 the mountain biking and racing cycle enthusiast Axel Schnura took the first steps that would lead to the company's success with the idea for Sprint, the first carbon saddle. He ventured to start his own business in 2000 with the first series products. His products already finished in second place at the Tour de France in 2001.
Further milestones in the company's success story include:

2003: Introduction of the Perseus, the world's lightest racing bike brake.
2004: Introduction of the world's lightest road handlebar.
2006: Introduction of the world's lightest stem.
2009: Introduction of the world's lightest racing frame.

And motor sport was no exception, where his components quickly became a part of great successes and titles.

2005: First Le Mans victory
2008: First Formula 1 victory
2009: Second Formula 1 victory

The company's successful history continues today in our new, state-of-the-art plant built in 2009 in Creussen, Germany. The new plant was planned together with the Fraunhofer Process Innovation Project Group at the University of Bayreuth and was optimized on the basis of internal manufacturing processes. We work to the world's highest standards to create tomorrow's products. Spatially separate work steps, continuous air conditioning in process technology, clean rooms and material locks combined with our own development and construction department allow us to create highly innovative products that set global standards.
